Classy Pets Don't Have to Be Cuddly

Exotic pets loosely defined are pets that are neither cats nor dogs not fishes nor turtles. They are the animals which are never really thought about as a normal pet material: fluffy, furry or fish bowl bound. The list of exotic animals that are marketed as pets are numerous: rodents (mice & rats), lagomorphs (rabbits, chinchillas), amphibians (ceacilllian, salamander, frogs), reptiles (snakes, lizards) and other mammals (capuchin monkeys, kinkajou ). Some exotic pets need registration especially when breeding is an option of the pet owner. To add to your exotica, several steps and requirements are called for especially for breeding the exotica of the 'dangerous' kind: snakes (pythons or poisonous), big cats (lion, puma or any large feline).

Allergies and sensitivity to fur and dander prone pet animals have made the exotica an obvious choice.  Yet the choice is always at a high price, vet care and looking for specialty shops that carry your particular exotic pet paraphernalia. Excluding rabbits, turtles, fishes (the regular kind) and some spiders;  the choice of exotic pet must adhere to  CITES regulations, which prohibit trade of exotic pets that threat the pet's survival and the ecological damage of its origin.

Exotica (the safe ones…) at petting zoos or class room science 'show and tell' encouraged by a teacher is one of the programs done to teach pupils pet responsibilities. Having exotic pets in class opens doors to learning about the pet's history, its life cycle and its habitat. Fostering a mindful attitude towards the environment and the creatures that are part of it is a valuable lesson for children. A cat or dog loving child will be taught respect for other species and gain an open minded view of animals (pets and exotica) role in the life cycle.

Cats and dogs have been the forerunners of the pet kingdom. Ownership of these furry creatures have sky rocketed that shelters in different counties have counted bins of euthanized  cats and dogs by the thousands every week. As much as the pet adoption programs and appeals to save certain pets don't do much with the need for more. People are needed who'd give up the chance to buy a pet from a breeder and be satisfied with an adopted dogs or cats.

Exotic pets answer the need for instruction to present pet owners to take care and be interested in their pets and not even consider abandonment nor improper training to break the pet's spirit.
