Legislation extends protections to pets
Cruelty knows no bounds, because of attackers and abusers who may use family pets as leverage to silence the victims. Battered victims are said to be reluctant to leave a place of domestic violence because shelters rarely allow pets to stay with the escaping family. I admire State Senator Fred Risser (R-Madison) for thinking of silent victims of domestic violence. The sponsoring of the proposal that will make it possible for restraining orders against attackers by victims can include the protection of the pets.
Every pet-loving American should keep their fingers crossed for this to be put into law. In a way we can support the bill and help numerous pets.
Domestic violence has become more prevalent and serious these past years, addiction to illegal drugs and alcohol has been the root of most cases. It is good to know that bills sponsored and are passed to further protect victims.
